One quick tech tool that was helpful during Superstorm Sandy was having a USB TV card for a laptop. This device turns your computer into a Television able to take the TV signal from the air with the included antenna giving you the ability to watch TV and stay informed during a storm if the power were to go out.
This is the device that we purchased… Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-955Q
With a laptop acting as a television we were able to watch on battery and charge the laptop in the car during downtime. Just make sure you have a home power outlet in your car, most new cars come with them. As an alternative you can buy a car charger for your laptop as well.
